PETRA-1 DAY FROM TEL AVIV/JERUSALEM WITH FLIGHTS
$399
Fly from Tel Aviv to Eilat in the morning, crossing the Israel/Jordan border and driving to Petra through the scenic Jordanian desert, passing by the towering mountains and rock formations of Wadi Rum, which mesmerised Lawrence of Arabia, where he once lived and fought with the Bedouin and where he was inspired to write the Seven Pillars of Wisdom. Arrive at Wadi Musa, meaning ‘the valley of Moses’, the town sitting on the edge of Petra, where you can see the shrine to Moses’ brother Aaron, believed to be his grave site. Entering Petra, begin by making your way to the Siq Canyon, either walking with your guide or on a short horse ride. Pass by the Obelisk Tomb, Silica Quarries and the Jinn Blocks before reaching the entrance to the Siq. See the stone dam that was built to shield the city from floods, with its impressive draining channels, and inside the Siq view the archway – once the grand entrance to the ancient city as well as ancient carvings in the rock, paying homage to the various deities which were worshiped in the city. Once you reach the end of the canyon, see Petra’s most famous structure, the Treasury (Al Khazneh). From here the tour continues along the Street of Facades to the Nabataean Amphitheatre. See the Royal Tombs and walk down the Colonnade Street to see the Great Temple, hearing along the way the stories and history from your guide. After visiting the city, return to Wadi Musa for a buffet lunch at a local restaurant, before driving to Aqaba for a short city tour, then returning to the border and back to Eilat for your flight to Tel Aviv.
